Cristiano Ronaldo: 'His legacy is tainted now'

Chief Manchester United writer for the Manchester Evening News on Ronaldo's 'incendiary' interview.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the 37-year-old superstar footballer, has said in an interview that he feels "betrayed" by his current club, Manchester United, he does not respect the manager Erik ten Hag and claims he is being forced out.

In a statement in response to the interview, United said:

"The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established," United said in a statement on Monday.

"Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff and fans."

Samuel Luckhurst is the chief Manchester United writer for the Manchester Evening News:

"It's an incendiary interview. It's the second time in as many months that he's overshadowed a positive result with negative behaviour and in going after the manager he's fighting a battle that he's just not going to win."
