Fined for a car that's not yours
Marianne from Colchester keeps receiving parking fines for a car she's never owned.
A Colchester resident says she's fed up with the parking tickets coming through her front door - for a car she doesn't own.
Marianne Gentry has been battling to prove she's not the owner of the car since June. But since then she's had three tickets and a bailiff round to her house.
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Essex speaks to Marianne, as well as David Carrod who is the chair of the British Motorists Protection Association.
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Essex did approach Debt Recovery Plus for a comment but they didn't respond.
The DVLA say they are looking into this for Marianne and looking at it as a matter of priority.
Smart Parking said in a statement:
"The individual involved has never contacted us about this matter or used our appeals service, so we have only found out about this issue today. On further investigation we can confirm that we issued one charge to the address of the individual as this was the registered address of the car involved in the original charge, as provided by the DVLA. As we didn't receive any response to the charge we passed the debt onto a third-party business, Debt Recovery Plus. That said, neither Smart Parking or Debt Recovery Plus have instructed bailiffs and as such, their visit to the individual in question was most likely linked to a government body, such as a local council. As a matter of goodwill, we have cancelled the charge."
