'The Queen was very gracious and she made everybody feel comfortable'
People around the world are paying tribute following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022.
Queen Elizabeth visited India three times during her reign. Her second trip was in November 1983 and her nine day state visit was timed to coincide with a summit of Commonwealth leaders.
During that visit her constant official companion was Brigadier KP Singh Deo. His wife, Rani Savitri Devi, recollects the Queen's visit. She says, "The Queen was very gracious and she made everybody feel comfortable when she spoke to you... I think no-one could have represented the United Kingdom better than her."
