EU studies Iran's response to 'final text' to save 2015 nuclear deal
Iranian advisor says Tehran has been able to gain 'major concessions on multiple issues'
Midnight on Monday was the deadline for Iran to respond to the EU's final draft text to salvage and reinvigorate the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the JCPOA. And we understand that deadline has been met. For a year and a half, European and Iranian negotiators have met in Vienna, for more than eight rounds of talks, with the US participating indirectly, to try and find an agreement where Washington and Tehran would return to compliance with the deal, which the Trump administration walked away from. As a result of the deal collapsing, Iran started to ramp up its nuclear programme in 2019 - it is arguable that Iran is now closer to making a nuclear bomb than it has been at any point in its history. The talks are at a very delicate stage and a great deal is at stake. Mohammad Marandi is Professor of English Literature and Orientalism at the University of Tehran. He is also an adviser to the Iranian Negotiating Team in Vienna. So what is Tehran's response to this draft text?
