Exiled Rupal Rajani presents: Forced to flee

An emotional exploration of what happened when Asians were expelled from Uganda and forced to flee to England in 1972.

Imagine waking up one day and being told by the president of your country, your homeland, that you have to leave and given just 90 days to go. That鈥檚 what happened 50 years ago to people of South Asian heritage in Uganda. Dictator Idi Amin expelled Asians from the country on 4 August 1972. Around 27,000 left Uganda for the UK.

For the first time in 50 years Rupal sits down and talks to her older siblings Jayshree and Suresh about what happened when they arrived in England.

Also journalist and author Yasmin Alibhai-Brown explains why Asians were expelled from Uganda and the political situation in the UK at the time.

This is a six-part series originally broadcast on local 成人快手 radio.
