China sends up the second part of its space station

China has launched the second of three modules needed to complete its first space station, as Beijing continues its ambitious programme in outer space.

This second module will provide living quarters and facilities to carry out experiments.

Its next task will be to dock with the first section of the station, which is currently orbiting the earth with three astronauts on board.

Wendy Whitman-Cobb, a space policy expert at the US Air Force School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, told Newshour's Jon Donnison more about the Chinese space programme.
