James Webb: Nasa telescope delivers stunning images
Nasa releases full-colour images of the cosmos taken by the James Webb telescope.
Spectacular images of the distant cosmos taken by the James Webb space telescope have been released by Nasa. The full-colour images offer a more detailed view as never before of the gas clouds, dust and galaxies that make up our universe.
Astrophysicist Dr Katie Mack from the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics says the images are "cool and detailed, showing us new things about the universe". She describes the "cosmic dance" between a group of galaxies known as Stephan's Quintet interacting with each other's gravity. The new images show how galaxies can collide with each other to create new stars. She also describes the "stellar nursery", a nebula called Carina Nebula, which is made up of clouds of dust and gas where "baby stars are forming out of little clumps of gas and dust". It's a "huge step" for astronomy and as a cosmologist Dr Katie Mack is "tremendously excited about what we're going to learn"
