The American R and B star R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by a judge in New York.聽 The sentence comes nine months after Kelly was found guilty of being the ringleader of a violent and coercive scheme to lure women and children for him to sexually abuse - abuse that continued for more than two decades.聽 The court heard how he trafficked women between different states, helped by managers, security guards and other members of his entourage.聽

Among those who gave a statement to the judge, ahead of sentencing, is Lizzette Martinez who met Kelly back in 1995 when she was just 17 - the start of an abusive and highly damaging relationship. She thinks it has taken so long to bring him to justice because he was protected by powerful people around him. She says she has suffered PTSD and depression since the relationship, and "could take a lifetime to heal".

"'He abused me mentally, physically, emotionally, in any way that you can imagine. He humiliated me."
