Two Britons and a Moroccan who were captured while fighting for Ukraine have been sentenced to death by a Russian proxy court in eastern Ukraine. Britons Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner, and Brahim Saaudun are accused of being mercenaries, Russian state media says. The court, which is not internationally recognised, is in the pro-Russian so-called Donetsk People's Republic. The UK and Ukraine have condemned the sentences for violating international laws protecting prisoners of war.
成人快手 reporter Joe Inwood says that if the court proceedings had happened in Russia that the sentences would have been more lenient. He says it has been suggested that it is no accident that the men have been tried here, that this court is not independent and that the regime in the People's Repubic of Donetsk, where the trial took place, is a puppet regime of Russia. He goes on to say that a possible route out could be a prisoner swap, or negotiations between Morocco and Russia.
