Sidhu Moose Wala: Punjabi rapper shot dead

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, a Punjabi rapper, singer and politician popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was shot by unidentified people while travelling on Sunday evening. The attack took place a day after his security was cut back by the state government and the murder has led to a political storm, sparking massive outrage from fans and opposition leaders. Video footage of his car showed it was sprayed with bullets, with a number of them piercing the windscreen and the bonnet. Thousands of fans have gathered outside his village home to pay respects. Six people have been detained in connection with the murder.
Ankur Desai, from the 成人快手's Asian Network, says that in just four years, Sidhu Moose Wala had transcended the Punjabi music scene to become popular across many parts of the world, including Europe, Britain, the US and Canada. He goes on to say that he was also involved in politics and was seeking a seat with the Congress Party in Punjab. His family have criticised claims made by the police that his murder is connected to gang violence.
