Texas shooting: The 'deep wound' of losing my great granddaughter

Retired pastor Julian Moreno lost his nine-year-old great-granddaughter Alexandria, and says she had received an award for her schoolwork on the morning of the shooting.

Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in a shooting on 24 May at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The children who died were aged between seven and 10. It is the deadliest shooting at a US elementary school since 20 children and six adults died at Sandy Hook school a decade ago. Police have since admitted they were wrong not to storm the primary school classroom where the gunman and the children were located.

Retired pastor Julian Moreno lost his nine-year-old great-granddaughter in the attack. He says that she had received an award for her schoolwork on the morning of the shooting, that she was "energetic, loved to play baseball and an avid reader". He says he has "shed tears" since the shooting, and found comfort in the Bible, and has tried to stay strong for his great granddaughter's family.

"It has been a deep wound for our entire family. We have moments when we collapse."
