Texas school shooting: Was the police response adequate?
A question being asked in the wake of the Uvalde shooting on Tuesday is whether local police responded adequately to the shooting.
Video quickly emerged of parents of kids at the school turning up just outside the entrance -- incredulous at the fact that police officers had gathered in considerable number outside the school campus -- but none, it seemed. was going in to confront the shooter.
The current timeline suggests It was an hour before the teenage gunman was shot dead by a team of specially trained officers.
Art Acevedo is the former chief of police in the Texan cities of Austin and Houston. He told Newshour's Tim Franks what he made of the police response to the shooting in Uvalde and the need for gun safety reform.
