UK urged to help jailed Egyptian-British activist
The Egyptian pro-democracy blogger, Alaa Abdel Fattah, has been on hunger strike for seven weeks. He was one of Egypt's most most celebrated and visible activists. But since President Abdel Fattah-al Sisi came to power in 2014, Alaa has spent most of his time in detention. Back in December 2021, he was convicted for 'spreading false news' and sentenced to five years in jail. Now, with Alaa having both British and Egyptian citizenship, the UK government is being urged to intervene more actively in his case. Alaa's sister, Mona Seif, spoke to Newshour.
