Muslims in Kyiv: Eid al-Fitr in the shadow of war
Muslims around the world are celebrating Eid al-Fitr, the festival which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.聽 Muslims in Ukraine make up around one percent of the population. Although the festivities are more muted this year, Muslims still came together to mark Eid al-Fitr at a mosque in Kyiv.
成人快手 reporter Abdujalil Abdurasulov, who went to morning prayers in Kyiv's main mosque, says there are fewer decorations, less food and fewer people this year as many feel it's inappropriate to celebrate at a time of war, while there is so much suffering in the country. He comments that one of the biggest sections of Ukraine's Muslim community are the Crimean Tartars, who left Crimea after the Russian annexation in 2014, and are now active in the political life of the country.
