Nigeria oil refinery fire victims to be buried in mass grave
Burials are taking place for at least 110 people who were killed in an explosion at an illegal oil refinery in Imo state in south-eastern Nigeria on Friday evening. More than 70 others were wounded. Many of those who died, including a pregnant woman, had come to buy fuel, but the majority of those who died had been working at the site. It's unknown what caused the fire, but a warrant has been issued for the arrest of the owner. It's thought that Nigeria, one of the world's largest oil producers, loses around 10 per cent of its oil to illegal outlets, and people come from outside the area to work in the illegal trade. Ifeanyi Omeje, the Zonal Accountant at National Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria, explains what has been happening in the wake of the fire.
