Stranded - game changing technology in the mountains

The drones allow rescuers to speak remotely to those who get stranded and a new handset can even find mobile phones on the side of mountains in order to locate someone.

There can be few places on Earth more beautiful than the Scottish Highlands. But while the landscape is stunning – it also tells a tale of risk, rescue, and sometimes tragedy. Now, mountain rescue teams have begun training with new technology that could revolutionise the way they save people on some of Britain's highest peaks.

The drones they're using now allow them to speak remotely to those who get stranded and a new handset can even find mobile phones on the side of mountains in order to locate someone who's hurt or even unconscious.

For 5 Minutes On, our Scotland Correspondent, Lorna Gordon, was given exclusive access to the teams using the new kit.
