In the space of just ten days – since Russia began its invasion on Ukraine - an estimated two million refugees are thought to have fled west to neighbouring countries. Many are being met with open arms in Poland – which has already taken in more than a million people.
Mishal Hussein – a presenter on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 4’s Today programme – is in south eastern Poland - about eight miles from the Ukrainian border. There are arrivals from Ukraine at all hours - some try to move on quickly to destinations further west - but before they do so, most hope for a bed and somewhere warm to rest. There’s a local version of Google maps where people can post their details if they are willing to take refugees in - but some families are being linked up by word of mouth. Mishal went to see one couple who are hosting five Ukrainians. This is 5 Minutes On – “A Polish welcome".
