Nearly 2,000 protesters have been detained following dozens of separate demonstrations across Russia. Now, Russian celebrities, journalists and other public figures have voiced their opposition.

Uliana Pavlova, a reporter for the Moscow Times, is one of the signatories to the anti-war petition signed by prominent figures from the entertainment and media industry, which opposes President Putin鈥檚 invasion of Ukraine. She says that many in Russia oppose the war, and believe that nothing can be gained from it. However, not everyone is happy to put name down on the letter as there could be serious consequences for people who show opposition. She goes on to say that there is government pressure on Russian-based media not to call the assault "an invasion".
