Prominent Indian Muslim women 'sold' on app

After a series of mock auctions online of prominent Indian women, police have arrested a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman in connection with an app that shared photos of more than 100 Muslim women saying they were for "sale."

The app was hosted on web platform GitHub, which has since taken it down amid widespread anger and outrage.

Several prominent Muslim women were targeted, one of those was Hasiba Amin, National Convenor in the social media department of the Congress party, in New Delhi.

"I was extremely shocked but I was not surprised because it wasn鈥檛 the first time this was happening with me. It鈥檚 really triggering, it makes you very angry. It鈥檚 a very high level of dehumanisation (and) objectification. It鈥檚 very humiliating. Clearly the minds of people have been brain-washed into believing that we are meant to be treated in a certain way."
