In the US state of Wisconsin five people have been killed and others injured, including children, after a car travelling at high speed drove directly through a Christmas parade in the town of Waukesha. The family event was being filmed so there's no shortage of upsetting footage going around. One video shows a red sports utility vehicle (SUV) caught speeding past a camera where musicians are marching along the street. Screams are heard and a law enforcement officer is seen immediately running to the scene.

Without elaborating, the local police chief said the suspect vehicle had been recovered and a person of interest was in custody. Soon after, Newsday heard from Chuck Quirmbach, a reporter for WUWM public radio station in Milwaukee:

鈥淭his person of interest has been apprehended. We don鈥檛 know why he or she took this action. But it seemed to be a deliberate speed-up or targeting of people watching the parade. Newspaper reporters have been saying a group of grandmothers, part of a dancing grannies group, was hurt鈥� what we know is a diverse group of people were hurt but we don鈥檛 know the extent.鈥�

鈥淧olice say this does not appear to be a case of domestic terrorism. We don't know of any connection (with Kyle Rittenhouse's controversial acquittal in nearby Kenosha). It is a time when people are wondering about justice and guns and maybe the holiday season is not bringing out the best in people.鈥�
