COP26: When will rich countries deliver on their promises to help fight climate change?
US special envoy on climate change, John Kerry, says richer nations will now deliver $100 billion to help developing countries tackle the climate crisis by 2022.
Today is 'Global Day of Action for Climate Justice' which has been acknowledged by leaders at the COP26 summit.
Politicians have already made many pledges - including the US special envoy on climate change, John Kerry, who says richer nations will now deliver one hundred billion dollars to help developing countries tackle the climate crisis by 2022 - two years later than initially promised, but a year earlier than feared.
Many climate activists are sceptical, including May Boeve who is Executive Director of the international climate campaign group, 350.org, who spoke to Newsday from Berkeley, California:
"...well I'm glad you brought up the pandemic because it shows that when governments sense an emergency, they can mobilise resources in record time. And the climate emergency is very, very dire and we need to see the same kind of same rapid action from governments that we saw in response to the pandemic."
