Afghanistan: Why are the Taliban persecuting the Hazara?

Hazaras make up at least a fifth of the Afghan population but have long been persecuted - particularly by the Pashtuns, the ethnic group to which most of the Taliban belong. Of all the communities in Afghanistan, the Hazara probably feared the Taliban's return to power more than most. Recently, there've been reports of Taliban officials forcibly removing Hazaras from their homes, under threat of violence.

Homira Rezai chairs the Hazara Committee in the UK, and is from the community. She explains what's been happening to the Hazaras in Afghanistan, since the Taliban took control of the country. She stresses that it's important for the international community to monitor and react to this persecution, as she believes the Taliban are testing the international community, and if no reaction takes place, the atrocities will increase and worsen.
