Covid-19: Could Vitamin A help restore the loss of smell?
Early in the pandemic, many people infected with Covid reported the loss, or altered sense, of smell, and some who continue to suffer symptoms with 'long Covid' do not fully regain this.
Researchers at the University of East Anglia in the UK are starting a trial to test a theory that Vitamin A might be able to treat this. The team will give volunteers nasal drops containing the vitamin and then compare their responses with a control group.Â
Carl Philpott, Professor of Rhinology and Olfactology at the University of East Anglia, explains his thoughts on why Covid-19 leads to people losing their sense of smell, and how this treatment will work.
