The Mozambique military, in conjunction with the Rwandan army, has reportedly launched a major offensive against Islamist militants in the province of Cabo Delgado.

A Rwandan pro-governmental website, says that 90 percent of insurgent territory has been recaptured although these claims cannot be independently verified. As the fighting goes on, hundreds of thousands of Mozambicans, displaced by the war are living in precarious conditions, with no certainty about their future.

Journalist Neha Wadekar has been to Cabo Delgado and has met with some of the displaced people who were there and gave this update to Newsday.
