Wildfires rage as western US suffers extreme heat
Extreme temperatures are expected to persist in the mountains and deserts of the western US today, continuing to break records.
On Friday, Death Valley in California sweltered through what is thought to be the highest temperature ever recorded on earth - a sizzling 54.4C.
Communities have been told to evacuate as firefighters struggle to battle the blazes caused by the conditions.
Craig Philpott is a photographer specialising in taking photos of wildfires - something that means he needs to go in to the dangerous areas others are fleeing.
"I've personally experienced with my family being in damaging fires and having to evacuate. As a news photographer I'm drawn to communities that are struggling with these kinds of disasters."
