Why we organised Malawi's first gay pride event
In Malawi it remains illegal to be gay - and a conviction can carry a jail sentence of up to 14 years.
So it was quite an achievement for the country's LGBTQ community when they held their first ever gay pride parade last weekend.
One of the organisers of the parade was Eric Sambisa, Executive Director of the Nyasa Rainbow Alliance.
"The community is brave now. They're actually asking the government to initiate a dialogue and hear our concerns... for the first time the police have been so supportive... the police were in the forefront giving us protection."
