The last British accent in the US

The story of Ocracoke Island, North Carolina is rich in tales of pirates, Native Americans and English sailors, but one of its greatest legacies is a completely unique dialect. Due to the island being quite isolated for hundreds of years, Ocracoke's 'Hoi Toider' brogue sounds more like it's from South West England than it does from the United States.

Inspired by 成人快手 Travel鈥檚 2019 article 'The US island that speaks Elizabethan English'.
