US backs waiver on Covid vaccines intellectual property
The Biden administration says it supports waiving intellectual property protections for coronavirus vaccines - a breakthrough for international efforts to suspend patent rules, as the pandemic rages in India, South America and elsewhere. There's been growing pressure for wealthier nations to share their vaccine stockpiles with poorer nations. Now the World Trade Organisations members must all agree for the patents to be waived.
