Syria 10 years on: 'our world changed'

Ten years ago, on this day, protests started in several Syrian cities to call for the removal of President Bashar al-Assad鈥檚 regime. Civil war followed with at least 380,000 people killed, and half the population displaced.

Nuha is one of the millions of Syrians who left their homes as a refugee. After 18 months apart from her husband, she managed to join him in the UK with her baby son. Her father died in Syria, while the rest of her family is spread across a number of countries.

She says when the protests started no-one imagined it would change their lives forever.

"We never think it will be like this. We feel like it will be some months and everything will come back to normal. So many million people are refugees in different country. My brother's children, they speak German. My children speak English... We want to keep our identity but we can't."
