Liberia's strong bond with Barbados
The Caribbean island of Barbados is offering citizenship to all those who descend from their country's settlers in Liberia. In the 19th century, hundreds of Barbadians emigrated to Liberia, after an invitation from the West African nation for persons of African descent from the Caribbean to come and settle there. Among them, in 1865, was John Prince Porte and his family. His great-great-grandson is Ambassador Lorenzo Witherspoon, a former Liberian diplomat - he takes up the story.
