The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to three people for their pioneering work on black holes - "one of the most exotic objects in the universe", in the words of the prize committee's chairman.

The winners are Sir Roger Penrose for demonstrating that black holes are a consequence of Albert Einstein's theory of relativity, and Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for using the world's largest telescopes to provide the most compelling physical evidence of their existence. Andrea Ghez describes how she feels about winning the prize.
