The five films tell personal stories about London鈥檚 West Indian community from the late-1960鈥檚 to mid-1980鈥檚. The title is derived from an African proverb, which has resonance throughout the Caribbean, 鈥渋f you are the big tree, we are the small axe鈥�. This was made popular by Bob Marley in The Wailers' song Small Axe from the album Burnin鈥� (1973).
