The pastor fired by her congregation for coming out as transgender
A pastor has been fired by her congregation in Ontario, Canada after coming out as transgender.
Reverend Junia Joplin has been ministering to the Lorne Park Baptist Church in Mississauga for the past six years, where her congregation had perceived her to be a cisgender man.
During an online sermon given during the coronavirus pandemic, Junia shared that she is transgender. It led to 52% of the congregation voting to remove her as their pastor.
Reverend Joplin told Newsday's Bola Mosuro the journey which took her to giving that sermon.
