The acceleration of infections looks set to continue, as there's no reliable track and trace system in place and because people are reluctant to go into lockdown because of the economic implications, says Kacey Ernst, an infectious disease epidemiologist and professor at the University of Arizona.
She said that the easing of lockdown has led to a change in mentality - "people equate open with safe" - and that she expects to see a spike in death rates in Arizona over the coming weeks.
