Why are we seeing record temperatures in the Arctic?

In June 2020, temperatures in the Arctic Circle may have reached record levels after the mercury hit 38掳C (100掳F) in Verkhoyansk, a Siberian town. Steve Vavrus, a climatologist from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, explains why heatwaves like this occur and discusses their link with global warming.
