"He would slap himself in the face, punch himself in the face, bite his own hand"
Evening Extra spoke to several parents of children with complex needs about the increasing pressures on them and their kids since the closure of most of Northern Ireland's special schools, 13 weeks ago, due to lockdown.
One of the parents, Simon - not his real name - talked to Tara and Declan about his 9 year old son who has severe learning difficulties, autism and ADHD. Simon told them why his son has started to self-harm more since he's been off school and why he, as a concerned dad, has been in contact with the authorities to try to get his son back into school.
Stormont's Department of Education says it "recognises that Covid-19 has placed additional stress on vulnerable children including those with statements of Special Educational Needs and their families and will continue to make them a key priority through its work on the Education Restart Programme announced by the Minister on 3 June."
There are some distressing details from the start in our interview with Simon.
