George Floyd death: How is Trump handling the crisis?

Former speech-writer to George W.Bush says Trump's response has been 'calamitous'.

President Donald Trump has threatened to send in the military to quell growing civil unrest in the US over the death of a black man, George Floyd, in police custody. He said if cities and states failed to control the protests and "defend their residents" he would deploy the army and "quickly solve the problem for them".

The killing of Mr Floyd came at a time when more than 100,000 people have died from Covid-19, and 40 million people are registered unemployed as a direct result of the economic lockdown.

David Frum is now a staff writer at the Atlantic magazine, and was a speech writer for President George W Bush.
