'Why are we losing so many good people ?'
The World at One returns to its adopted school Bellfield Junior, in a deprived area of Birmingham, which it is following over a full school year to see how it juggles its very tight budget.
At the beginning of the school year, the school went down to a four and a half days a week to free up funds for things like maintenance and its sizeable pastoral care burden. Its headteacher regularly meets with other local school leaders who are also dangerously close to going into the red with their budgets.
