Syrian Conflict: 'No safe space in Idlib'

The UN's Human Rights chief has called for humanitarian corridors to relieve the pressure on the population of the northern Syrian province of Idlib. Michel Bachelet says she's "horrified" by what's happening there, and criticised what she called "indiscriminate and inhumane attacks".

But in a television address the Syrian leader Bashir al-Assad reiterated his determination to retake the last areas of rebel-held territory in Syria. The UN says 900,000 Syrians have fled the fighting in Idlib since the beginning of December.

For Radio 4's World at One, Mike Thomson has been monitoring events there from London.
