Ethiopian asylum seeker taken off lifesaving dialysis
An Ethiopian woman who has kidney failure has been taken off dialysis because she is an asylum seeker.
Alem Ereselo, 36, had been on kidney dialysis at the Helen Joseph hospital in Johannesburg since January.
But last week, doctors took her off the treatment and told her it's because she's not a South African citizen.
A judgement from the Johannesburg High Court last month backed the hospital's decision.
Alem has been living in South Africa for nine years, but has not been granted asylum status.
