'Kolisi lifting World Cup greater for South Africa than 1995' - Smit
Legendary Springbok John Smit reveals what it would mean to South Africa if captain Siya Kolisi lifted the World Cup.
"It was iconic when Francois (Pienaar) lifted the World Cup with Madiba, and it was amazing to be able to do it myself with Thabo (Mbeki)," says Smit.
"But if Siya touches that trophy on Saturday... I tell you, it will be a far greater moment than 1995. Far greater. It would change the trajectory of our country."
In May 2018 the flanker became South Africa's first black Test captain and has kept the role ever since.
John Smit was speaking with former Springbok front-rower Hanyani Shimange on Rugby Union Weekly ahead of Saturday's World Cup final between England and South Africa.
