Why have protesters in Iraq taken to the streets?
There have been street protests in cities across Iraq demanding action on unemployment and widespread corruption. Security forces have opened fire on the demonstrators, and a number of people have been killed.

It's put the Iraqi government under immense pressure to act and now they've announced a sweeping plan of reforms; including higher welfare payments for the poorest families and the construction of 100,000 new housing units.
Middle East researcher Renad Mansour believes this marks a "transformative moment" for Iraq.
