‘I sent my severed toe to Canada to be used in a cocktail’
A former Royal Marine has sent his severed toe to a hotel in Canada, where it’s going to be used in a ‘Sourtoe Cocktail’. Nick Griffiths lost three toes to frostbite when he competed in an extreme winter marathon in 2018.
Tourists and residents are able to order an alcoholic cocktail of their choice, served with a mummified human toe floating inside, at the Downtown Hotel in the Yukon.
The toe itself must touch the drinkers' lips in order to earn a certificate from the bar.
Nick told 5 Live’s Tony Livesey he hopes to return to Canada “once the toe is ready to use”.
“They’re going to fly me out and I’m going to do the ‘Sourtoe Cocktail’ using my own big toe.”
