Fatima Zaman, Jonathan Scott and Bryony Jarman-Pinto
Listed Londoner Fatima Zaman, author Jonathan Scott chat about ‘The Vinyl Frontier: The Story of the Voyager Golden Record’ and live music from Bryony Jarman-Pinto.
This week’s Listed Londoner is campaigner Fatima Zama who was 13 years old when she witnessed the 7/7 bombings in 2005 and now works with former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on counter extremism policies.
Jonathon Scott, author of ‘The Vinyl Frontier’, recounts the story behind the Voyager Golden Record – a 90 minute metal LP that was taken into space by the Voyager spacecraft when it launched in 1977. It contained music, messages and photographs designed to be discovered by passing extraterrestial life that might chance upon it.
Lydia Yee, Chief Curator at the Whitechapel Gallery, explains how and why they have recreated an event which took place at the Gallery in 1973 when they exhibited hundreds of European sweets in celebration of the UK’s entry into the European Common Market. Some of the children who visited at the time, were so enticed by the displays of confection that they overpowered the security guard and ate them.
Live music from London singer Bryony Jarman-Pinto who performs a track in studio.
