5 Live's Rory Carson speaks to a woman known as 'Miss M' about her fight for justice.

She won 拢80,000 in damages in a private civil action from a man who had been cleared of raping her after a night out in Scotland.

In a criminal trial in 2015, a High Court jury found the charges against her attacker, Stephen Coxen who denied rape, not proven. But a sheriff in the civil action ruled Mr Coxen raped Miss M, and demanded he pay damages.

Civil cases require a lower standard of proof than criminal cases, with judgments made on the balance of probabilities rather than beyond reasonable doubt. The Sheriff Robert Weir said the evidence from Miss M, who is now 23, had been "cogent, compelling and persuasive". Mr Coxen's lawyer, Mark Thorley, said: "He [Stephen Coxen] is considering the judgement and will look at his options thereafter."
