In France, it is now against the law for supermarkets above a certain size to throw away unused food. Instead, they must donate their excess edible food to a non-profit, charity, or food bank. The law also mandates that school children are taught about food sustainability, agriculture, and cooking. Now, France is at the top of the global food sustainability index.
