Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No 5 in D minor (Prom 60)
The fifth symphony is subtitled 'To October', in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the 1917 Bolshevik (October) Revolution. The triumphant finale can be heard either as political protest or capitulation to Stalin鈥檚 Soviet regime.
