Natalie Dormer: “I play women who find their way through their fearâ€

Natalie Dormer has famously played two fierce queens who meet horrible ends. She was Anne Boleyn in the TV series The Tudors, then played scheming Margery Tyrell in Game Of Thrones. Now she stars in a TV adaptation of Joan Lindsay’s 1967 novel Picnic at Hanging Rock, a strange tale of the disappearance of three schoolgirls and a teacher while on an outing to the Australian wilderness. She talks to John Wilson about playing Hester Appleyard, the formidable headmistress of a girls’ school, and why she finds the term ‘strong women’ reductive.
