Now she stars in a TV adaptation of Joan Lindsay鈥檚 1967 novel Picnic at Hanging Rock, a strange tale of the disappearance of three schoolgirls and a teacher while on an outing to the Australian wilderness. She talks to John Wilson about playing Hester Appleyard, the formidable headmistress of a girls鈥� school, and why she finds the term 鈥榮trong women鈥� reductive.
