Life and Death in Syria

While the many-sided conflict in Syria continues, the business of life - and death - for the citizens of the country goes on. Aerial bombing has devastated the cities in the north of Syria, and local authorities and volunteers are trying to cope with the job of clearing the rubble, and the dead, all the while avoiding unexploded bombs and improvised explosive devices left behind by Islamic State terrorists.

David Pratt, Contributing Foreign Editor to The Herald, Sunday Herald and online international affairs magazine, Cable, has just returned from the region where he was observing the efforts of civilians to deal with the stark problem of those left dead on the ground by the fighting.
