To mark the centenary of the RAF, 95-year-old John Martin is sharing the incredible story of his ordeal behind enemy lines, when his Lancaster Bomber was shot down near Berlin in 1944.

John had survived being brought down by enemy fire, arrest and interrogation by the Luftwaffe in Dulag Lufft, and was sure that he was to be shot.
But he wasn't shot. John was sent to a prison camp, and here he vividly recalls the harsh winter of 1944/45 as the longest of his life - as a prisoner of war.
